Importing the online entries and event files is performed on the Race Setup page (1st Menu from the top), then click the Database Setup tab

Exporting Tables
Choose the data that you want to export, and then click the Export Tables button

Clicking the Open Export Location button will display the files that were generated during the export process.

NOTE: the actual files that are generated may include tables that you did not select. This is because some table data has related data that exists in other database tables.

The files that are produced during the export process are simple Comma Separated Values (.CSV) files. These files can be viewed and edited if required.

IMPORTANT: Do not edit the CSV file names. The file names are used during the import process.

Importing Tables
To import the exported data files, click the Import tables button to open the Browse For Folder pop up form

By default, the Browse For Folder form should open to the required location:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Scale Race Engineering\e-Laps Race Timing\System

NOTE: The Browse For Folder form will remember the location that is opened, so the next time it is used, it will automatically open to the last location opened.

Once the location is chosen, the system will automatically look for relevant CSV file to import. Assuming files exist, it will ask whether you want to import the files it has found.

Clicking Yes will import the table data from the files found... the time it takes will depend upon how many records are imported.

Once data is imported, an Event will need to be set up, and drivers sorted into Heats etc.

Weather variables like air temperature, track temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure etc. influence a race car set up and engine tune.

e-Laps Race Timing software has integrated functionality that allows you to read and display these weather variables directly on the Pit screen display, as well as printed on the race reports and emails.

There are several different weather sensor modules that can be purchased through Scale Race Engineering, and the basic temperature sensor module has the following technical specifications:

To use a weather sensor, connect the sensor module directly to a USB port on your system, or to a USB port on a compatible network controller such as a Wireless-g Network Hub or PoE Ethernet Controller Module.

NOTE: network controller must be an integrated controller (available through Scale Race Engineering) in order for the weather sensor to be able to communicated back to e-Laps software.

Once the sensor module is connected to your system, open the Weather Sensors tab on the Network page (7th Menu item from the top).

NOTE: it can take a few seconds for a connected sensor to appear in the drop down lists. The sensors will appear automatically (after 5 seconds or so), however you can click the small button to the right of a drop down list to refresh the lists immediately.

On this tab you can choose which sensor you want to use for which weather variable. If you have multiple physical sensor modules connected to your system (e.g. a Temperature sensor module and a Thermocouple sensor module), you will be able to choose individual modules using the drop down lists.

Some sensor modules (e.g. the "Temperature, Humidity, Atmospheric Pressure" sensor) have multiple sensors built in to the one module. Each of these sensors can be chosen for the required weather variable using the drop down lists.

Track Temperature
Reads a sensor that is measuring the track temperature - ideally this would be a thermocouple temperature sensor connected directly to the track surface.

Ambient Temperature
Reads a sensor that is measuring the ambient (air) temperature.

Relative Humidity
Reads a sensor that is measuring the relative humidity.

Atmospheric Pressure
Reads a sensor that is measuring the atmospheric pressure.

Once selected, sensor values will be displayed on the Weather Sensors tab, as well as in the footer bar on the e-Laps window:

Sensor values will also appear on the Pit screen display, and will also be printed on any race report or race result emails.

Changing Sensor output values
Temperature values can be displayed in degrees Celsius ©, or degrees Fahrenheit (F).
Atmospheric pressure value can be displayed in Pascals (hPa) or Bar (bar).

NOTE: Changing an output value will record the change on the sensor module's flash memory. This means you don't need to continually change the value each time you connect the module.

Calibrating sensor values
Weather sensors can be calibrated if required. To do so, click the small menu button in the top right corner of the Weather Sensors tab as shown below:

Clicking this button will open the Calibrate Sensors form.

To calibrate a sensor, type in a value in the NEW Value field (as shown in the above screen shot), and then click Save.

The sensor module will save this value in its flash memory and use it to calculate sensor value output.

To reset a sensor calibration, simply click the Reset button to clear all previous calibration values.

Weather sensor chart
Weather sensor values are recorded within e-Laps every 30 minutes. These 'trend' record values are displayed on the BREAK screen that can be opened via the Preferences Tab on the Race Setup menu (2nd menu from the top).

Complete BREAK screen functionality is explained in another How To guide, but some functionality explanation is repeated here due to its relevance to weather sensor control.

Here you can control which weather sensors are displayed on the BREAK screen.

Race lighting can provide a visual means to signal various stages throughout a race. For example, Green lights signal a race has started, and Red lights signal the race has stopped.

e-Laps Race Timing software has integrated functionality that allow you to configure and control a 5 relay controller. This relay controller can be purchased through Scale Race Engineering, and has the following technical specifications:

There are 8 configurable relay 'states' as shown below.

Each relay state can be configured so any of the 5 relays are activated at a specific stage during a race. The various race stages are explained as follows:

Between races
This stage represents the time period before 'Warm Up' begins. It can also represent the time period after the 'Advance' button has been clicked in order to progress to the next race.

Warm Up
This stage represents the time period after 'Between races' and before a race is 'Started'. This stage will also be activated if a race is restarted.

Started
This stage represents the time period during which a race has started and is underway.

Stopped
This stage represents the time period after a race has been run (after all cars have finished their final laps), and before the 'Advance' button has been clicked. This stage will also be activated if a race is finalised.

Configuring relays
The '1 Rly 5' column control is used to configure which relays are activated in a given relay state. For example, an entry of '10101' will instruct the relay controller to activate relay 1, relay 3, and relay 5 only. Conversely, an entry of '01010' will instruct the relay controller to activate relay 2, relay 4 only.

Relay timing
The relay state timing can be configured using the Time column control. This control sets the time (i.e the race time within a specific race stage) a relay state is activated. For example, Yellow lights can be configured to come on 30 seconds prior to a race starting, then the Yellow lights can be configured to start flashing 10 second prior to the race starting.

NOTE: The ability to flash lights is not controlled by the 5 relay controller. The 5 relay controller is used to activate (switch on or off) a master relay, which in turn can be used to control a 'relay flasher' unit that is directly attached to a light.

Relay Hot Keys
Four keyboard keys can be configured to operate specific relay states as required. These 'hot keys' are the F1, F2, F3, and F4 keys on a conventional PC keyboard.

To configure a hot key to operate a specific relay state, simply choose the required relay state from the key's drop down list.

This will automatically save the selected relay state against the specific hot key.

Pressing the hot key will activate the chosen relay state. Pressing the same hot key a second time will de-activate the chosen relay state and set the relay controller back to the state it was in prior to the hot key being pressed.

Configuring Speech for Hot Keys
Speech can be automatically announced when each Hot Key is pressed. For example, the text "Caution on the back straight" could be configured for the F1 key.
For more information of configuring Hot Keys see the How To Configure Hot Keys guide.

Connecting a relay controller
Simply plug the 5 relay controller in to a USB port on your PC. Then select the controller from the Light Controller drop down list when it appears.

NOTE: After plugging the controller in to a USB port, it may take several seconds for the relay controller to appear in the Light Controller drop down list.

Manually activating / de-activating relay states
Any relay state can be operated at any time provided a relay controller is attached and selected from the 'Light Controller' drop down list.

Click a relay state's 'ON' button to activate the relay state. Click the 'OFF' button (the ON button becomes the OFF button after being clicked) to de-activate a relay state.

Wiring up relays
Connect the positive and negative power source wires to the each relay terminal block as required.

How To Use Race Stoppage (Rear Of Grid Penalty)

The Race Stoppage (Rear Of Grid Penalty) functionality is specifically designed for Speedway racing, where races are stopped frequently after an incident, the Grid is re-ordered, and the race restarted.

To use the Race Stoppage functionality, first ensure your races are set up to have a race length in Laps.

Choose whether you want the Start Mode to be Grid (Rolling), or Grid (Stationary). These are explained below:

Grid (Rolling)
Start mode where all cars are closely grouped to form a 'rolling grid'. A race starts after the start countdown reaches zero, and a car crosses the timing loop.

Grid (Stationary)
Start mode where all cars are stationary on the track, in a grid formation. A race starts after the start countdown reaches zero.

NOTE: Race In Laps must use a Grid Start Mode.

After a race has begun, a 'Stoppage' can be initiated by clicking the Pause button (to pause the race), and then right clicking on the lap time screen, and choosing the 'Re-Order Grid...' menu item.

The Re-Order Grid form will appear, displaying all race entries.

The Re-Order Grid form can be used to:

- Deduct a lap from all entries without re-ordering the grid, or
- Choose which entries are to be penalised by being sent to the rear of the grid.

The 'rolling snapshot' (see below) is applied to all cars, in both of the above cases.

Rolling snapshot explained
All car lap counts are recorded each time the lead car crosses the timing loop. This provides a 'snapshot' of all car lap counts, for the previous lap.
This snapshot is used to reset lap counts when a Stoppage is initiated, and penalties are applied.

Sending cars to rear of grid
Multiple entries can be selected (by holding the CTRL key whilst selecting cars), where the order in which they are selected will determine which car is positioned in last place.

Once a car is selected, the Preview Changes button will become enabled.

Clicking the Preview Changes button will display the change in grid order, and the new lap count.

Clicking the Reset button will revert the to the old grid order and lap counts.

After re-ordering the grid, the Confirm Changes button will become enabled.

Clicking the Confirm Changes button will transfer the grid changes to the race control lap time screen.

Restarting the race
The race can be restarted by clicking the Start button.

If changes have been applied using the Re-Order Grid form (explained above), the race will restart when the lead car crosses the timing loop.

If no changes have been applied, then clicking the Restart button will restart the race immediately.

NOTE: The lead car may have changed due to re-ordering the grid.

Laps will not begin counting until the lead car crosses the timing loop a second time.

IMPORTANT!
Ensure the new lead car is able to continue racing, and ensure they cross the timing loop twice. Otherwise the race will never restart.

Finalising the race
The remaining laps are displayed on the lap time screen. As the lead car crosses the timing loop, the remaining laps count down with each passing. Once the lead car reaches the "Final Lap", the race is completed (for all cars) when the lead car completes its final lap.

NOTE: all cars, regardless of how many laps they have completed, will be finished once they cross the timing loop after the lead car has completed its last lap.

As cars complete the race, their Total and ETA columns will turn Red.

It should be noted that some cars may not be physically capable of completing the race. For example the car may be damaged and is no longer on track.

Click the Finalise Race button to finalise and mark the race as complete.

Depending on system settings, after a race has been finalised, the system will either prompt to print Race Reports, or the reports will print automatically.

Click the Advance button to initiate the next race, or to move on to the next session (Qualifying or Finals)

Multipart finals are available when an event is configured to use the "ABC Finals" mode.

Checkboxes appear in the right hand "MP" column of the event session list as shown in the screenshot below.

NOTE: Multipart finals are only applicable to A and B finals, consequently clicking any other checkbox in the event session list will pop up an alert box telling you this.

Once finals are generated (after Qualifying is complete), the Grid Listing structure will display multipart finals, as shown below.

'B Finals' are automatically created with 2 parts, 'A Finals' are created with 3 parts. The length of these 'part' races is configured in the event session list, via the Race Setup page (2nd menu from the top).

Reordering Multipart Final Entrants
Reordering can be performed using the same drag and drop operations for all other race heats. However if you need to move remove an entrant, or move them to another final, then you will first need to remove the entrant from their current final. This is performed by right clicking on the required entrant and choosing the 'Remove Final Entry' menu item as shown in the screenshot below.

Removing an entrant from a multipart final will remove them from all final parts. i.e They will be removed from 2 parts for B finals, and 3 parts for A finals.

Then you can either drag and drop the entrant (from the entries list) to the desired final, or you can right click on the final name and choose the 'Add Extra Entry' menu item, as shown below.

This will open a form where you can select the entrant you previously removed, as shown below.

Once the entrant has been added to a multipart final, the system will automatically enter them into each final part. i.e They will be entered in 2 parts for B finals, and 3 parts for A finals.

Multipart Race Schedule
By default, multipart finals are scheduled to race consecutively, but naturally this order can be adjusted as required. The race schedule can be reordered (by dragging and dropping the races) via the Daily Schedule tab on the Race Setup page, as shown below.

Reseeding
After each final part is completed, the system provides the option to reseed any remaining final parts based upon the order the entrants finished the race before.

Note: This is OPTIONAL and clicking NO in the reseed alert box will leave the multipart final grids unchanged.

Overall position scoring
After all final parts are completed, the overall final results are calculated based upon the IFMAR points system, regardless of what 'Qualifying Mode' is chosen on the Race Setup page. This scoring system determines a racer's final position by calculating accumulated points scored over a specific number of final parts.

NOTE: Only the multipart finals (A final and B final) are calculated using IFMAR points. All other ABC finals will be scored based upon laps / times.

Race Reporting
Report printouts are available after each final part is complete and various reports are available via the Race Results page (6th menu from the top).
